Is Medical Writing Stressful?

‘Is medical writing stressful?’-is one of the most frequently asked questions in Google about medical writing. See my answer in the video.

Do you want to be a medical writer?

Do you have bioscience knowledge, and do you want to use it to improve lives?

How do you know that this is a career suitable for you?

If you are working full-time with a communication agency or with Pharma, regardless of who your employer is, the writing can get pretty stressful if the work culture doesn’t suit your personality.

How about freelancing?

You have more freedom because you can choose when to work and who to work with, but you are also your own boss, your own accountant, your own tax person, so you have to do everything, which can get pretty stressful. And then, sometimes you have a lot of projects you’re focused on, and sometimes you don’t have enough, so there are these ups and downs that you have to get used to.

If you have a work environment that is nurturing for you, that’s supportive, and you can express yourself as a writer, probably, medical writing will be very enjoyable for you. Also, as a freelancer, if you can ride with the bumps, after the first year, probably when you have more experience, it’s going to get easier.

And finally, any job can get stressful from time to time. So, what you need to find out is that you will not be constantly stressed by what you do.
